Associate Director, Donor Relations

The University of Virginia seeks an Associate Director, Donor Relations, to join its team within University Advancement. The Associate Director, in partnership with the Director, Donor Relations, will create, develop, and implement a best-in-class stewardship program focusing on the following areas: annual endowment reporting, scholarship reporting and programming, pan-University giving societies, gift acknowledgments, and principal gift stewardship and recognition. The Associate Director will report to the Director, Donor Relations and have four direct reports.

The incumbent must have a minimum of five years' donor relations experience and a minimum of two years' experience managing and developing staff. S/he will have experience in developing and managing multi-phase projects from inception to roll-out, and experience gaining buy in from internal stakeholders. S/he will have exceptional communication skills--both verbal and written; copyediting and proofreading experience is a plus. Candidates with experience in higher education or other large, complex non-profit institutions, are preferred.

The ideal candidate will be organized, focused, detail and goal oriented, with a high level of energy, drive, and initiative. S/he will have excellent customer service skills dealing with internal and external constituents, as well as exceptional social skills and high emotional intelligence to best communicate with a wide-range of audiences, constituents, and benefactors.

This is an exciting time to join the University of Virginia's Advancement team! The University will celebrate the first of two milestones of its Bicentennial in October 2017, and is currently planning for its next capital campaign with a public launch scheduled for 2019.
