The Henrico Education Foundation (HEF) is seeking a dynamic fundraising professional who believes strong schools make strong communities. HEF supports the Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS), the sixth largest school district in the Commonwealth, serving 51,000 students in 72 educational facilities from diverse neighborhoods including suburban, rural and urban communities. 

HEF’s work in support of HCPS is more important than ever as principals and teachers look for new instructional strategies and approaches to improve public schools and ignite student learning.  Founded in 1993 as a public-private partnership with the school district, HEF serves as a catalyst to create innovation, identify research-based solutions, replicate best practices in additional classroom, and connect key partnerships with public schools.  Our mission is to prepare students for college, career and community by connecting philanthropy with strategic initiatives that strengthen public education in Henrico County. HEF funds creative instructional approaches with strong academic goals that directly address the opportunity gap and provides resources for teachers impacting the most challenged students.

The Director of Development will manage day-to-day operation of the development office and work with the Executive Director, Foundation staff and Board of Directors to implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to cultivate philanthropic support to strengthen public education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Foundation’s day-to-day fundraising efforts
  • Develop, implement and lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the Foundation
  • Develop funding proposals, briefings, stewardship plans and other correspondence with donors and prospects
  • Research, cultivate and solicit individual gifts, corporate sponsorships and major gifts
  • Secure sponsorships for HEF fundraising events
  • Lead the Board’s Development Committee
  • Train and support Foundation board members and volunteers involved in soliciting gifts on behalf of the Foundation
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with the philanthropic community
  • Provide regular detailed reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors
  • Oversee the creation and production of fundraising materials
  • Assist with grant proposals for major initiatives

Ideal Candidate will have:

  • A passion for public schools and a commitment to public education
  • Four or more years of successful fundraising experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree (CFRE is a plus)
  • The ability to work creatively and independently to connect donor interest with Foundation and school division priorities
  • An excellent work ethic with strong organizational, written and speaking skills
  • A proven ability to work cooperatively with individuals from various backgrounds
  • Comfort and confidence in asking for and closing major gifts
  • Proficiency in donor management systems, with knowledge of basic computer skills and business software programs
  • A strategic and goal-oriented mindset with knowledge of capital campaigns and experience in managing annual campaigns
  • The successful candidate should enjoy working with people, especially high-profile donors, and work well under pressure
  • The ability to coordinate multiple projects and work as a team player
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
